City of Prospect is no doubt one of the most creative councils in SA, and in mid January they have their sights set on a major, and slightly unusual, prize for Tourrific Prospect 2016.
Monday night on 18 January – in the thick of the Tourrific Prospect street party, City of Prospect will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the Largest Ukulele Ensemble.
The number to beat? 4,792 players, held by Tahiti.
Mayor David O’Loughlin will be leading the impressive ensemble, with support by the fabulous “Marilyn Jetty Swim group”, whose antics as Marilyn Monroe impersonators help to raise money for the Cancer Council.
They need your help with this ambitious goal, and invite individuals, businesses, schools and community groups to grab a uke and be part of the bid.
Barossa Music Centre – a challenge sponsor – has prepared special discount packages on ukuleles, and Mayor O’Loughlin suggests “If you don’t have a ukulele, then you can easily own one through one of our great deals (delivered free to your home). If you need to learn, we’ll be hosting workshops and participants can access an online tutorial through YouTube.”
The tune in question is aptly “Daisy Bell (a Bicycle Built for Two)”, perfect for the Santos Tour Down Under Tourrific occasion, and Eye Play Sport will benefit from the $2 registration fee.
